What Came Off, and What Went On
- The old roof: Ludowici clay barrel tile, about 60 to 70 years old by our project manager’s estimate.
- The salvage: instead of going in a dumpster, the old tile was taken off by hand, piece by piece, and packed into crates. A local company arranged to buy it to reuse on restoration work on older buildings.
- The new roof: Decra stone coated steel in a barrel vault profile that keeps the look of the old clay tile. The new tile is much lighter than the clay it replaced.
Clay tile roofs this old are rare, and replacing one takes more care than a standard tear off. If your home has an old tile roof and you are weighing repair against a lookalike replacement, we can walk you through both at a free inspection.
