Belvidere roofs come in two very different ages, and the repairs follow that split. Martin Exteriors Roofing & Siding has fixed leaks and storm damage since 2006, and Belvidere repairs are handled from our Rockford office on Fincham Drive, just off I-90. Call (815) 209-9054. Someone answers 24/7.

Old Belvidere and New Belvidere
Census estimates show about 22% of Belvidere homes were built before 1940, several times the share in Loves Park or Machesney Park. At the same time, about a third of the city’s homes went up between 1990 and 2009. The median works out to 1976, but not many Belvidere houses are actually average. Most are either quite old or fairly new, and each group has its own repair list.
Older homes near downtown and the Kishwaukee
Pre-war houses tend to have steeper roofs, dormers, brick chimneys and plank decking, and many have been re-roofed more than once. Repairs here usually center on chimney and dormer flashing, worn valleys, and soft boards where an old leak sat for years before anyone noticed. Attics in these houses were often never vented the way modern shingles need, so we check that as well. See attic ventilation.
1990s and 2000s subdivisions
Homes built in the city’s growth years mostly got builder-grade shingles, and many of those roofs may still be the originals. They tend to fail at the edges and the openings: wind-lifted shingles along rakes and ridges, cracked rubber pipe boots, ridge vents that let in wind-driven rain, and step flashing along second-story walls.
Recent Storms in Belvidere
Boone County gets its share of severe weather. NOAA’s Storm Events Database lists hail up to 1.75 inches in Belvidere on April 14, 2026. On August 16, 2025, thunderstorm winds snapped trees 3 to 4 feet across along North Appleton Road and brought down trees across the southeast side of the city. On November 10, 2020, about 30 feet of roof was blown off the Chrysler plant. Wind that strong can lift shingles on a house just as easily.
Falling trees are a big part of it. On July 11, 2011, NOAA reported trees falling across Belvidere and damaging roofs, including one on East Lincoln Avenue. A heavy limb can crack the decking under shingles that look fine, so after a limb strike we check from the attic side as well as the roof. Learn more about hail damage repair and wind damage repair. When a Repair Is Enough
Signs a repair should do the job:
- The leak traces back to one spot, like a chimney, a vent or a valley.
- The shingles around it still lie flat and still have their granules.
- There’s one layer of shingles and the deck is firm.
Signs it’s time to talk about a new roof:
- Shingles curling, cracking or bald across a whole slope.
- Two or more layers already on an older house.
- Leaks in several places, or the same leak coming back after repairs.
- Soft decking in more than one area.
If replacement is the answer, our roof replacement page explains how we do it. New roofs come with our workmanship warranty plus the GAF warranty you choose, and as a GAF Master Elite contractor, a status held by fewer than 2% of roofers, we can register up to a 50-year GAF warranty with up to 30 years on workmanship (GAF eligibility rules apply). For Belvidere homes, see our page on roof replacement in Belvidere.
Your Repair Visit, Step by Step
First, the story. Where the water shows up, when it started and what weather brings it on all help us narrow it down.
Then everything that touches the leak. We check the shingles, the flashing, the chimney, the vents and the attic. On older Belvidere houses the attic often tells us more than the roof does: stained boards, damp insulation and old patch work all show up from inside.
Photos and a written price. Nothing gets fixed until you’ve seen the pictures and the number.
The repair, then a walk-through. We make the repair, replace any soft boards in the repair area, and show you the finished work.

Belvidere Roof Repair FAQ
My Belvidere house was built before 1940. Can the roof still be repaired?
Often, yes. Older roofs can usually be repaired around chimneys, dormers and valleys. If the decking is soft in several places or there are already two layers, we’ll show you why replacement may make more sense.
Could the April 2026 hail have damaged my Belvidere roof?
It could have. NOAA’s Storm Events Database lists hail up to 1.75 inches in Belvidere on April 14, 2026. Hail that size can bruise shingles without obvious signs from the ground. A free inspection with photos will tell you.
A tree limb hit my roof but nothing looks broken. Should I worry?
Have it checked. A heavy limb can crack the decking under shingles that still look fine, and that spot can leak later. We look from the roof and from the attic.
Do you repair roofs in Belvidere’s newer subdivisions too?
Yes. On 1990s and 2000s homes the common fixes are wind-lifted shingles, cracked pipe boots, ridge vents and the flashing along second-story walls.
Can you tarp my roof tonight?
