A leak in Loves Park usually starts small: a brown ring on a ceiling, a drip near the bathroom fan, a few shingles in the yard after a windy night. Martin Exteriors Roofing & Siding fixes those problems from our Rockford office on Fincham Drive, and our main line at (815) 209-9054 is answered 24/7. We’ve been repairing roofs around Rockford since 2006, and we’re a GAF Master Elite contractor, a status GAF gives to fewer than 2% of roofers.

Loves Park Housing Is a Mix, and So Are the Repairs
Loves Park doesn’t have one typical roof. Census estimates put the median home at 1986, but the spread is wide: about 20% of homes were built before 1960, about 21% between 1960 and 1979, and about 37% between 1990 and 2009. Only about 58% are detached single-family houses. The rest are townhomes, duplexes and small multi-unit buildings, a much bigger share than in Machesney Park next door, where close to 9 in 10 homes are detached.
That matters when something leaks. An older ranch, a 1990s two-story and a row of townhomes under one long shared roof each fail in different places, so we don’t show up with a one-size answer. We look at how your roof was built and where it has been patched before we decide what the fix is.
The Repairs We Make Most in Loves Park
- Hail-bruised shingles. Hail doesn’t always knock shingles loose. Often it cracks the mat under the granules, and the spot starts leaking a season or two later.
- Wind-lifted tabs and torn ridge caps. Once a shingle’s seal strip lets go, the next storm folds it back and tears it.
- Limb strikes. Mature trees along the Rock River and in older neighborhoods drop heavy branches in storms, and a big one can crack the decking as well as the shingles.
- Flashing where a roof meets a wall. On townhomes and split-levels, the step flashing along a second-story wall or a wall between units is a common leak point.
- Pipe boots and roof vents. The rubber collar around a plumbing vent cracks with age and lets water run down the pipe into a ceiling.
What the Storm Records Show for Loves Park
NOAA’s Storm Events Database has a long list of Loves Park entries, and several of them are exactly the kind of weather that turns into repair calls. On June 29, 2023, photos showed hail at least 2 inches across in Loves Park. On July 10, 2025, hail up to 1.5 inches fell east-southeast of town.
Wind does its share. On November 22, 2010, thunderstorm winds near McFarland and Thomas Drive blew shingles off roofs and damaged fascia on several houses. On July 26, 2023, a storm downed trees and limbs from the north side of Rockford into Loves Park, and one home was badly damaged by a falling limb. Hail and wind like that can damage a roof without leaving anything you’d notice from the driveway. If a storm came through and nobody has been on your roof since, a free inspection is the easiest way to know. See hail damage repair and wind damage repair.
Shared Roofs on Townhomes and Small Buildings
With so many attached homes in town, it’s common for the stain to show up in one unit while the cause sits over the next one. Water runs along the underlayment and the deck before it finds a way down, so the wet spot on your ceiling isn’t always under the hole. On a shared roof we trace the leak back to where it starts, photograph it, and give you a written repair price you can share with your neighbor or your association before any work is scheduled.
Repair It or Replace It?
Many roof problems in Loves Park can be fixed with a repair instead of a new roof. We’ll recommend a repair when:
- The damage is in one area and the rest of the shingles still lie flat and hold their granules.
- There’s one layer of shingles and the decking is solid.
- The leak has a clear cause, like a cracked boot, a missing shingle or a loose piece of flashing.
Replacement starts to make more sense when patches keep failing in new spots, shingles are curled or bare across whole slopes, the deck feels soft underfoot, or storm damage runs across most of the roof. If that’s where you are, our roof replacement page explains how we build a new roof. Every new roof comes with our workmanship warranty plus the GAF warranty you choose.
What Happens When We Come Out
We listen first. Tell us where you see water, when it shows up and what the weather was doing. A leak that only appears in a driving west rain points somewhere different than one that drips on a sunny day in February.
We check the roof and the attic. Shingles, flashing, vents and pipe boots on top, then the underside of the deck, the insulation and the vents from inside. Some leaks turn out to be attic condensation or a fan venting into the attic, and the fix for those isn’t shingles. See attic ventilation.
You get photos and a written price. You see what we saw, and you know what the repair costs before anything is touched.
We make the repair and show you. Damaged shingles come out, new ones go in matched as closely as we can, and flashing gets new metal rather than another layer of tar.

Loves Park Roof Repair FAQ
My townhome’s roof is shared. Can you repair just my section?
Yes. We find where the leak starts, which isn’t always above your unit, and give you a written repair price with photos. If the cause sits over a neighbor’s unit, you’ll have what you need to talk it over before work is scheduled.
Can hail damage my roof without me seeing it?
Yes. Hail can crack the shingle mat and knock granules loose without tearing anything off. NOAA’s Storm Events Database lists hail 1.5 to 2 inches across in and near Loves Park in 2023 and 2025. A free inspection with photos shows you what’s there.
How soon can you tarp a leaking roof in Loves Park?
Emergency tarping can be done within 24 hours, and someone answers (815) 209-9054 24/7.
What does a roof repair visit include?
We check the shingles, flashing, vents and pipe boots, then the attic. You get photos and a written price before any repair. If the problem is attic moisture instead of the roof itself, we’ll tell you.
Does storm damage always mean a new roof?
No. If the damage is limited to a few areas and the rest of the roof is sound, a repair is often enough. If damage covers most of the roof, we’ll show you the photos and explain why replacement makes more sense.
