Up in the northeast corner of Boone County, Capron is roughly 25 minutes from our Main Street office in Roscoe. Our family business dates to 2006, our phones are staffed 24/7, and we have been voted What Rocks Rockford Best Siding, 2021 to 2025. Call (815) 624-6278.

Old and New on the Same Street
Capron has a little of everything. Census estimates show about 1 in 5 homes in the village were built before 1940, nearly half were built between 1990 and 2009, and the median home dates to 1988. Walk Wooster Street or North Street and you can pass a hundred-year-old house and a 1990s ranch on the same block. Out in the newer neighborhoods off Cloud Mist Drive and Shadowbrook Drive, it’s mostly homes from the last few decades.
Those two kinds of houses need different siding jobs, and we price and plan them differently.
Capron Gets Big Hail
Capron’s siding takes a beating. NOAA’s Storm Events Database lists 1.75-inch hail, about golf ball size, in Capron on July 13, 2015, along with a 60 mph gust. Gusts of 55 mph were reported in Capron in 2018 and 2021, and NOAA counts 35 hail reports across Boone County from 2010 through 2025.
Hail that size will crack vinyl, especially older vinyl that has gone brittle in the cold, and it dents aluminum. That’s why we spend a lot of time talking about impact resistance with Capron homeowners.
Hail-Ready Choices
Fiber cement from James Hardie is dense and won’t burn, so hail that cracks vinyl usually bounces off. It suits the older homes in the village, too, because it looks like painted wood lap siding. Hardie runs higher in price and comes with a product warranty from James Hardie itself.
For many Capron houses, Mastic or Norandex vinyl is still the sensible, lower-cost pick. Thicker and insulated panels resist dings better than the thin vinyl from decades ago. When a couple of panels do crack, swapping them is quick if your color is still in production.
The Pre-1940 Houses
On the oldest homes in the village, expect us to find something under the current siding. Wood lap, old aluminum, and asbestos cement shingles all turn up. We’re licensed for asbestos siding removal and handle it with our own crews. After that, we fix soft sheathing and most homes get new house wrap. These jobs take more prep than a newer house, and we’ll tell you that before we start.
The 1990s and 2000s Homes
The newer homes are usually simpler. Straight walls and solid sheathing mean most of these jobs take 1 to 2 days. The common issues are faded builder vinyl, cracked panels near the ground and loose courses where wind has worked under them.
After a Storm
We’ll inspect your siding and roof for free, photograph the damage, and help with your insurance claim if it’s worth filing. We have helped thousands of Rockford-area homeowners through roof claims since 2006, and we won’t push one that isn’t worth it. See hail damage repair.
Permits and Roofing
Martin Exteriors pulls and handles all required permits, inside or outside the village limits. If your roof is due too, see our Capron roofing page, plus our Belvidere siding page and the siding installation overview.

Capron Siding FAQ
What siding holds up best to hail in Capron?
Hail and stray impacts are where Hardie beats vinyl. On a Capron ranch, a heavier or insulated Mastic or Norandex vinyl panel keeps costs down, and a damaged piece or two can be swapped fast.
Has Capron had large hail?
Yes. NOAA’s Storm Events Database lists 1.75-inch hail, about golf ball size, in Capron on July 13, 2015, with a 60 mph gust.
Do I need a permit for siding in Capron?
Usually, yes. Martin Exteriors pulls and handles all required permits for your siding job, inside or outside the village limits.
My Capron house is over 80 years old. What should I expect?
Expect us to find older siding under the current layer, sometimes asbestos. We’re licensed to remove it with our own crews, and we’ll repair the wall before the new siding goes on.
How long will new siding take on my Capron house?
Most siding jobs take 1 to 2 days. The 1990s and 2000s homes are usually quicker than the pre-1940 houses, which take more prep.
