Vinyl Siding Installation in Rockford, IL

If your siding is faded, cracked, or letting drafts in, vinyl is the fastest way to give your house a clean new face without taking on a lot of upkeep. We’ve been siding homes around Rockford since 2006. Martin Exteriors is family-owned, and Rockford voters have picked us What Rocks Best Siding Contractor 5 years running.

This page covers what we install, how a job goes, and how vinyl stacks up against James Hardie, so you can figure out what fits your house.

Why Rockford homeowners choose vinyl siding

Vinyl is the practical pick. It costs less up front than fiber cement. It never needs paint, and a garden hose takes care of most cleaning.

It also handles our weather well. Northern Illinois swings from humid summers to below-zero Januarys, and good vinyl is made to expand and contract through that. What matters is how it’s hung. Siding nailed too tight will buckle when the temperature swings. Our crews leave the room each panel needs to move, and that’s the main reason a vinyl job still looks straight ten years later.

Other reasons people go with it:
• A long list of colors and profiles, from classic lap to board-and-batten and shakes
• Insulated panels that help with comfort and cut outside noise
• A fresh look that helps curb appeal if you plan to sell

Vinyl siding options we install

Standard vinyl. A solid, good-looking product at the friendliest price. It’s a great fit for rentals, garages, and homeowners who want a clean update.

Insulated vinyl. These panels have foam bonded to the back. They feel stiffer, sit flatter on the wall, and add some insulation to the outside of your house.

Profiles and accents. Dutch lap, traditional lap, vertical board-and-batten, and shake or scallop accents for gables. Plenty of homeowners mix two styles for a more custom look.

We install Mastic and Norandex vinyl siding, plus James Hardie fiber cement. We’ll bring samples to your estimate so you can see colors in daylight next to your roof and trim.

Our vinyl siding installation process

  1. Free inspection and estimate. We look at the walls, measure, and check for soft spots or rot behind the old siding.
  2. Tear-off. The old siding comes off and gets hauled away. We handle removal of any old siding, asbestos included.
  3. Repairs and house wrap. Damaged sheathing gets replaced. On most jobs, new house wrap goes on next to keep wind and water out of the walls.
  4. Installation. Panels go up level, with the right spacing for expansion.
  5. Trim, soffit, and fascia. Doors, corners, and eaves get finished so everything looks like it belongs together.
  6. Cleanup. We pick up nails and debris and walk the job with you before we call it done.

Vinyl vs James Hardie fiber cement

Both are good. They just fit different goals.

Vinyl James Hardie fiber cement
Up-front cost Lower Higher
Maintenance Wash it Repaint every so often (factory color lasts a long time)
Feel Lighter Heavy, solid, looks like real wood
Fire/impact Good Better: non-combustible, holds up to hail and impact

If budget and low upkeep come first, vinyl usually wins. If you want the heaviest-duty, most wood-like look, look at James Hardie siding. Our siding services page covers every material we install, and this post on vinyl goes deeper on its benefits. For a side-by-side guide, see James Hardie vs vinyl siding.

Storm-damaged siding and insurance claims

Hail can crack, chip, or dent vinyl, and strong wind can pull panels loose. After a storm, a free inspection tells you whether there’s damage worth claiming. If there is, we document it with photos and can meet your adjuster on-site. Your insurance company decides what’s covered, but we’ll help you through the process. More on our insurance claim help. If only a few panels are damaged, see siding repair.

Areas we serve

We install vinyl siding in Rockford, Loves Park, Machesney Park, Roscoe, Belvidere, Cherry Valley, Rockton, and South Beloit, plus southern Wisconsin towns like Beloit and Janesville. Vinyl siding FAQs

How long does vinyl siding last in Northern Illinois?

Quality vinyl that’s installed correctly often lasts 20 to 40 years here. How long it lasts depends on the product, the color (dark colors take more sun), and whether it was hung loose enough to move with our temperature swings.

Is insulated vinyl siding worth it?

For a lot of homes, yes. It sits flatter, stands up better to dings, and adds some insulation and noise reduction. It costs more than standard vinyl, so we’ll tell you honestly whether your house will see the benefit.

Can vinyl siding be installed in winter?

Yes, we install vinyl siding in winter. Vinyl gets more brittle in deep cold, so we handle and cut it with extra care to keep panels from cracking.

How long does a vinyl siding installation take?

Most homes take 1 to 2 days. Bigger houses, extra stories, or repairs under the old siding can add time. You’ll get a timeline with your estimate.

Do you replace house wrap with new siding?

On most jobs, yes. Most full re-sides get new house wrap under the new siding, and we’ll tell you at the estimate if yours will.

Will insurance cover hail-damaged vinyl siding?

It often does when the damage comes from a covered storm, but your policy and adjuster make that call. We’ll inspect, document the damage, and help with the claim.

Do you offer financing for siding?

Yes. New siding can run as low as $149/month for qualified buyers. Details are on our financing page.
