Clinton Homes Have Some Years on Them
Clinton is an older village than most towns its size around here. Census estimates put the median home at 1969, about 63% of homes were built before 1980, and roughly 27% were built before 1940. On streets like Church Street, Mill Street and Front Street, many houses are on their second or third round of siding.
That means the first part of almost every Clinton siding job is taking off what’s already there. We commonly find aluminum from the 1960s and 70s, early vinyl, and wood lap siding underneath. On some homes, there are asbestos cement shingles too. Asbestos siding is no detour: our own crews are licensed to remove it as part of the job.
Opening Up the Walls
Once the old siding comes off, we can see the sheathing. On houses this age, there are often soft spots near the bottom of the wall, around doors and under old gutters that overflowed for years. Rotten wood gets cut out and replaced, and fresh house wrap usually goes up before any panel does. Older homes rarely have much insulation in the walls, so insulated vinyl is worth considering if the house feels drafty.
Most siding jobs take 1 to 2 days. On a larger older home with a lot of trim, it can run longer, and we’ll tell you up front.
Rock County Hail
Rock County gets hit regularly. Between 2010 and 2025, NOAA recorded 81 hail reports across Rock County, with 62 at an inch or bigger. In Clinton itself, hail up to 1.5 inches, about ping-pong ball size, fell on August 16, 2025, and a 70 mph gust was reported on June 8, 2011. Older aluminum dents and older vinyl cracks in hail like that.

Vinyl or James Hardie in Clinton
For Clinton homes watching the budget, Mastic and Norandex vinyl siding is the usual pick. It never needs paint, comes in many more colors than it did when your old siding went up, and installed right it often lasts 20 to 40 years.
James Hardie fiber cement costs more but is heavier, non-combustible and handles hail better. Its wood-like profiles suit Clinton’s older homes, and it’s backed by James Hardie’s own product warranty.
